This enhancement addresses the need to track performance of specific product groups, such as analyzing tire sales by season or tracking filter inventory turnover.
Core Functionality
The new category system will provide:
Custom Categories: Create unlimited categories for your parts
Nested Structure: Build parent and child categories (e.g., Tires > Winter Tires > Passenger Winter Tires)
Flexible Assignment: Each part can belong to zero or one category
Powerful Reporting: Generate sales, inventory, and profitability reports by category
How It Will Work
Setting Up Categories
Step 1: Access Category Management
Navigate to Parts > Categories (beta)
View existing categories in a tree structure
Click the icon to create new ones
Step 2: Create Category Structure
Add Parent Category (e.g., "Tires")
Add Child Categories (e.g., "Winter Tires", "Summer Tires")
Create Sub-categories as needed (e.g., under Winter Tires: "Studded", "Studless")
Save your category structure
Step 3: Assign Parts to Categories
Edit any part in your inventory
Select category from dropdown menu
Create new category on-the-fly if needed
Save the part with its category assignment
OR
Simply go to the Category page
Drag and drop your parts into its appropriate category
